Pink Broadway Sauna Denied Insurance

Sauna’s all over the world are under threat of closure, and now adding to their woes is being denied insurance. One such cause is the Pink Broadway Sauna.

Its owner Nick Batt has tried to renew his insurance since November 2020, but only getting silence from his insurance broker. He has called everyone from politicians to other financial brokers, with no luck.

Says Batt

“I cannot get to the bottom of why there is reluctance for the above people to help and advise, whether it is homophobic or just embarrassment,” he said. “I have been told at various times ‘Saunas are a fire risk…’ What about the last 20 years? ‘Potential water leaks….’ What about the last 20 years?

“No one in the public eye, it seems, has the balls to fight this issue out in the open.”

“It may well be that it’s not exactly a homophobic injustice, but it certainly affects gay communities across the country, the potential loss will have a huge effect on my customers and friends. It’s my concern that places like mine go to renew their policies, they will not be able to… London has lost seven saunas this year, and I don’t want to end up closing for good.”

Human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell says

“Given that insurance is mandatory, the refusal of insurance to a lawful business is disturbing. It could force the sauna out of business in a region of the country where there are already too few gay meeting and entertainment venues,”

“Whatever people think about the adult services industry, it is legal and should not be refused the cover it needs to operate. If rejection by insurers becomes standard it could mean the closure of all gay saunas in the UK.”
